About Schieferkopf

Schieferkopf is a story of wine and friendship. In 2009, Michel Chapoutier, and four friends that shared his passion for the impressive minerality of Rhine wines, acquired a domain in Alsace, in the village of Bernardvillé. In 2015, they set their sights on the other side of the Rhine, and secured vineyards in Baden, Franken, and Pfalz. Schieferkopf means “slate-topped,” and the wines are a perfect expression of Alsatian and German terroirs. The rich mosaic of granite, limestone, clay, schist, and sandstone soils provide ideal conditions for cultivating grapes with character and balance. The Schieferkopf portfolio includes single-vineyard Alsatian Riesling, and German Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Sylvaner.
