The Crozes-Hermitage appellation was initially limited to the village and surrounding area of Crozes-Hermitage and originally designated thanks to the similarity of some of its wine to the Hermitage wines. This zone was long occupied by orchards and uncultivated land. It wasn’t until the extension of the appellation in 1952 that the vineyards were fully developed. Crozes-Hermitage wines are now well-known on their own merit.
The vineyards of Crozes-Hermitage surround the great Hermitage Hill, and the 25-year old vines are cultivated entirely under organic practice. Sometimes called a “down-sized Hermitage,” “Les Meysonniers” exhibits a depth and finesse reminiscent of “La Sizeranne” in a medium-bodied, moderate style.
Deep, intense garnet in color, this wine brims with the lush aroma of black pepper, raspberry and blackcurrant. The generous, round body is full of jammy fruit notes with hints of vanilla.
