Michel Chapoutier featured in Wine Spectator cover story
Click here to download a printable (PDF) version of the Wine Spectator cover story, “King of the Hill: Michel Chapoutier has put his Rhône winery at the pinnacle of quality” by James Molesworth, with photography by Jon Wyand.
Michel Chapoutier is described by Molesworth as “irrepressible” and hailed for “crafting some of the Rhone’s best reds and whites” and his profile features 15 Chapoutier wines rated from 95 to 99 points.
“Fruit is to wine what disco to music: It is important but it should not be dominant,” says Michel Chapoutier. It’s a joke, delivered with a wry smile. But it’s also a challenge. “It shouldn’t be more important than the texture or the length,” he continues. “The marriage of wine and food is the persistence of the wine without dominating the food. It has to be complementary, and wine with only fruit doesn’t do that.”
